How it happened
Weverton kept Grêmio in the contest with eight saves and a match rating of 9.5, the highest of any player on the pitch. Remo had nine shots on target and still scored only once.
Grêmio took the lead on the stroke of half-time. W. Kannemann scored in the third minute of first-half stoppage time (45+3') to make it 1-0 at the interval, despite the visitors being outshot over the match.
Remo pressed for the equaliser after the break and got it two minutes before the end of normal time. D. Braga scored in the 88th minute to make it 1-1. No red cards were shown, and the referee was Davi de Oliveira Lacerda.
The numbers
Remo led almost every attacking measure except the one that matters most. They had 23 shots to Grêmio's 17, nine on target to five, and 10 corners to four. Possession was 62% to 38% in their favour.
Expected goals tell the opposite story. Grêmio's chances were worth 2.6 xG against 1.32 for Remo, so the visitors created the better openings from fewer attempts.
Weverton's night was the clearest outlier. His eight saves came from 54 touches. At the other end, Marcelo Rangel made three saves and earned a match rating of 8.3. Marllon, the Remo defender, had 84 touches and a rating of 8.2.
What it means
The draw leaves Grêmio 18th on 30 points and Remo 19th on 24, a gap of six points. Grêmio have won seven of 29 league games; Remo have won five.
For Remo the point is small relief. They have not won in their last 10 matches, with four draws and six defeats in that spell. Grêmio's recent record is two wins, three draws and five defeats from 10.
Both sides are conceding more than they score across the season: Remo have a goal difference of -15 and Grêmio -8. On this evidence Weverton's saves were the difference between a share of the points and a defeat for Grêmio.
