How it happened
Jonathan Calleri decided this one. The forward scored twice for São Paulo, in the 20th and 70th minutes, and finished with a match rating of 8.6, the highest of any player on the pitch.
His first goal put the home side ahead early. Vitória answered before the break, Emmanuel Martínez equalising in the 39th minute to make it 1-1 at half-time.
The second half stayed level for 25 minutes before Calleri struck again to restore the lead. Vitória could not find another equaliser, and there were no red cards to disturb the contest.
The numbers
São Paulo controlled the attacking numbers. They had 21 shots to Vitória's 10, six of them on target to one, and won the expected-goals count 1.81 to 0.77. Possession was 55% to 45% and corners went six to two.
Calleri's own expected goals came to 0.85, close to half the side's total, and he added two key passes from 47 touches. Damián Bobadilla was the creative hub in midfield, with 70 touches, three key passes and a rating of 7.4.
For Vitória, Martínez earned a rating of 7.9 for his goal, which came from a chance worth 0.07 expected goals. Goalkeeper Lucas Arcanjo made four saves and was rated 6.4, though the shot count shows how often he was tested.

São Paulo move to 39 points and sit ninth, three clear of Vitória in 12th on 36. Goal difference separates them too: São Paulo are level at 0, Vitória at -11.
Over their last 10 matches São Paulo have four wins and five defeats, and Vitória three wins and six defeats. This result gives the home side a lift without settling either club's position.
