How it happened
Red Bull Bragantino won 4-2 because their goalkeeper, Tiago Volpi, turned away 11 shots from a Cruzeiro side that had 69% of the possession and 25 attempts to the hosts' 20.
The home side were ahead inside half an hour. L. Barbosa scored in the 13th minute, a K. Jorge own goal made it 2-0 in the 20th, and E. Ramires added a third in the 30th. Zé Lucas pulled one back in the 43rd minute, so Bragantino went in at 3-1.
The second half stayed quiet until the closing stages. M. Henrique scored for Cruzeiro in the 89th minute to make it 3-2, but J. Herrera answered in the first minute of stoppage time to settle it at 4-2.
The numbers
Cruzeiro put 13 of their 25 shots on target; Bragantino managed 10 from 20. Corners were level at six each. The estimated expected-goals figures were almost identical, 2.75 for Cruzeiro and 2.69 for Bragantino, so the visitors' territory produced chances of similar quality rather than a clear advantage.
Volpi made 11 saves in 99 minutes and a match rating of 10, the highest on the pitch. Cruzeiro's two goals came from the other two of their 13 efforts on target.
Kaio Jorge was the best-rated visitor with 8.1, creating one assist and two key passes. Defender Jonathan Jesus rated 8 and had 94 touches.
What it means
Bragantino went into the match ninth on 40 points, eight behind sixth-placed Cruzeiro on 48, and without a win in their previous five league games (D-L-L-D-L). Four goals from 20 shots ended that run.
Cruzeiro had won four of the seven previous meetings between the clubs, with Bragantino winning one and two drawn. This result is a rare reversal of that pattern. Cruzeiro's sequence before kick-off was W-W-L-W-L.
