How it happened
Palmeiras won 1-0, and the margin owed plenty to the man who lost. Bahia goalkeeper Ronaldo made 10 saves, and only a seventh-minute goal from José Manuel López got past him.
That was the only goal of the match and it came early. López, who played 69 minutes, finished the opening exchanges with Palmeiras ahead, and the score at half-time was 1-0.
Bahia did not find a way back. Ronaldo's work kept the deficit to one goal, but his side managed a single shot on target and never levelled. There were no red cards.

Palmeiras took 26 shots to Bahia's 10, with 11 on target against one. They also won seven corners to three. The expected-goals count was 1.91 to 0.51, so the home side created almost four times the quality of chance.
Bahia held more of the ball, with 59% possession to Palmeiras's 41%, yet that territory produced little.

Palmeiras are second in the Brasileirão with 60 points from 29 matches, a goal difference of plus 27 and 21 goals conceded. Bahia sit sixth on 46 points, 14 behind, with a goal difference of plus seven.
The result also continues a pattern between the sides this year. Palmeiras won 2-1 away to Bahia in April and have now added a 1-0 home win.
For Bahia, the lesson is mixed: a defence that kept them in the match for 90 minutes, and an attack that put one shot on target.
