How it happened
GKS Katowice won 2-1 against Wieczysta Kraków despite creating far less. Ilia Shkurin gave the home side the lead after 15 minutes, and they went into the break ahead.
Białek levelled for Wieczysta in the 62nd minute. Twelve minutes later Bartosz Nowak restored the lead, and that goal decided the match. There were no red cards.
The numbers
Wieczysta had the better of almost every attacking measure. They took 18 shots to Katowice's nine, won eight corners to one and held 62% of possession. Their expected goals reached 2.55 against 0.87 for the hosts. Shots on target were closer, four to two.
Gabriel Kobylak was part of the answer. The Katowice goalkeeper made three saves and earned a match rating of 7.1, so only one of Wieczysta's four efforts on target beat him.
Nowak had the top rating on the pitch, 7.9, with one goal, one assist and one key pass in 44 touches. Shkurin followed on 7.6, and his goal came from an expected-goals value of 0.46. For Wieczysta, Lisandro Semedo rated 7.5 across 68 minutes and created three chances with key passes, but did not score.
What it means
Katowice are fifth in the Ekstraklasa with 18 points, built on six wins and four defeats. Over their last 10 matches they have won six and scored 21 goals.
Wieczysta are 15th with eight points from two wins, two draws and six defeats. Their expected goals for the season stand at 17.1 from 15 scored, so the chances here were in line with what they usually create. They have taken 1.1 points per match over their last 10.
Football is high-variance, and this was a clear case: Katowice scored twice from less than one expected goal in total.
