How it happened
Club Tijuana did nearly everything but score. They had 20 shots to Club Puebla's seven, 12 corners to two and 58% of the ball, yet the match finished 0-0, with nothing separating the sides at half-time either.
The reason was Daniel Gutierrez. The Puebla goalkeeper made six saves across 90 minutes and finished with a match rating of 8.7, the highest of any player on the pitch. He touched the ball only 44 times, so his work came almost entirely from what Tijuana threw at him.
There were no goals and no red cards, so the story is one of pressure absorbed rather than chances traded.
The numbers
Tijuana's expected goals came to 1.18 against 0.44 for Puebla. That is a clear territorial and chance-creation edge, though not an overwhelming one: even from 20 attempts, the quality of the chances added up to a little over one goal. Tijuana put five shots on target; Puebla managed three from their seven.
Among the home players, Jesús Gómez led with a match rating of 7.9 and 86 touches. Adonis Preciado followed on 7.7 and created two chances with key passes, though his own expected goals were only 0.03.
What it means
Both sides finish level on 16 points. Tijuana, eighth, have played 11 matches; Puebla, tenth, have played 12. Over their last ten matches each has averaged 1.3 points a game, so the draw fits a pair of sides with little between them.
Tijuana's season expected goals of 18.3 sit above their 15 scored, which fits an evening of missed opportunities. Puebla have scored 12 from 9.8 expected, and their attack was rarely the story here.
The fixture has a habit of tight outcomes. In 30 meetings, each side has won 11 and eight have been drawn. The previous meeting, on 7 February, was also 0-0, a sharp contrast with the 4-3 Puebla win in October 2025.
