How it happened
Francisco Trincão scored twice as Al-Ahli beat Al-Fateh 4-0 in Al-Hasa, a result that stretched across the whole match rather than arriving in one burst.
Trincão opened the scoring in the 31st minute, and Al-Ahli led 1-0 at the break. He added his second five minutes after the restart, in the 50th. Ivan Toney made it 3-0 in the 60th, and the margin was never in doubt after that.
Ziyad Aljohani completed the scoring in the 89th minute. No red cards disturbed the match, and Al-Fateh did not score.
The numbers
Al-Ahli had 17 shots to Al-Fateh's five, and 11 of them were on target against one. Expected goals read 2.19 to 0.37, a gap of 1.82, so the scoreline was a fair reflection of the chances. Al-Ahli had 62% of possession; corners were close at four to three.
Adrian Šemper kept the score from growing larger. Al-Fateh's goalkeeper made seven saves, which means four of the 11 efforts on target beat him, and he earned a match rating of 7.1.
Trincão and Aljohani shared the highest match rating on the pitch, 9. Trincão's two goals came from 0.40 expected goals, and he played 85 minutes with 67 touches. Aljohani, who played the full 90, scored once from 0.28 expected goals. Defender Saad Yaslam Balobaid rated 8.1 and created two chances.
What it means
Al-Ahli arrived fifth with 15 points from eight matches, after a sequence of win, loss, win, loss, loss. A 4-0 win breaks that run of two defeats and adds to a goal tally of 20.
Al-Fateh arrived 17th with three points, having won none of their eight matches: three draws and five defeats. Their sequence before this fixture was two defeats followed by three draws. They had scored four goals all season and conceded 15, so another blank adds to a pattern already in place.
Across 28 meetings between the clubs, Al-Ahli have won 16, Al-Fateh seven, with five draws. This result adds to the visitors' side of that record.
