How it happened
Ponte Preta held Atlético Goianiense to a 1-1 draw despite being outshot 33 to eight and having 19% of the ball. The goalkeeper, Vinicius Ferrari Andreoli, made five saves and took a match rating of 9, the highest of any player.
David gave the home side the lead in the 42nd minute, from one of their few attacks. Atlético Goianiense went in at half-time trailing 1-0 and spent the second half pressing for an equaliser.
It arrived in the 87th minute, when J. P. Silva scored to level the match. Ponte Preta then finished with ten men: R. Andrade was sent off in the 90+3rd minute, which left the home side to see out the closing stoppage time a player short.
The numbers
Atlético Goianiense had 81% of possession and won 18 corners to one. Six of their 33 shots were on target, against five of eight for Ponte Preta. Expected goals were 2.25 to 1.12, so the visitors created the better chances, though the home side's 1.12 shows their few shots were not poor ones.
Vinicius Ferrari Andreoli faced the bulk of that pressure and touched the ball 43 times. Among the visitors, Junior Barreto earned a match rating of 7.9 with 113 touches and one key pass at the back. Matheusinho, who played 45 minutes, took a rating of 7.8 and made three key passes.
What it means
Ponte Preta are 20th in Serie B with 14 points from 34 matches: three wins, five draws and 26 defeats. They have conceded 74 goals and scored 19. A point is a modest return, but their recent ten matches brought one win, one draw and eight defeats, and only three goals scored.
David's goal also had some history behind it. Ponte Preta had not scored in any of their last five meetings with Atlético Goianiense, who lead the all-time series with 10 wins to three and five draws from 18 meetings.
Atlético Goianiense are sixth with 54 points, 40 more than their opponents. Their recent ten matches brought five wins, three draws and two defeats, and they have now drawn 12 league games this season.
