How it happened
Patrick Brey scored once and set up another goal as Botafogo-SP won 2-1 away to Operário-PR. His match rating of 9.6 was the highest of any player on the pitch.
Operário led almost immediately, Antonia scoring in the first minute. Botafogo levelled before the break, when Brey scored in the 44th minute, and went ahead nine minutes after the restart through Everton Morelli in the 54th.
Operário finished with 10 men. J. Cuenú was sent off in the first minute of stoppage time, too late to change the result.
The numbers
Botafogo had the sharper attack. They took 14 shots to Operário's 11 and put six on target against three. Expected goals were close, 0.68 for the visitors and 0.56 for the hosts, so the margin was narrow on chance quality.
Operário had more of the ball, 55% to 45%, and won seven corners to Botafogo's four. That territory brought little reward.
Brey made five key passes and touched the ball 67 times. Vinicius Diniz was Operário's best performer, with a match rating of 8.4, a goal and two key passes. Morelli's rating was 7.5. In goal, Vágner made four saves for Operário and had a match rating of 5.1.
What it means
Operário began the night ninth with 48 points from 32 matches. Botafogo were 16th on 38, ten points behind, so the away win cuts against the standings.
Botafogo arrived having lost six of their previous 10 matches, with two wins, so this result is a welcome change in a difficult spell.
Botafogo's win adds to a head-to-head record of three away-side wins in nine earlier meetings, with Operário winning two and four drawn.
