How it happened
AC Oulu won 1-0 at Kuopion Palloseura despite being outplayed on almost every attacking measure. Triana scored the only goal in the 28th minute, and the visitors defended that lead through the second half.
Kuopio had 17 shots to Oulu's seven, but only four of them were on target. Goalkeeper Miguel Santos saved all four and finished with a match rating of 8. There were no red cards, and the scoreline at the break, 1-0, was also the final score.
The numbers
Kuopio held 63% of possession against 37% and won nine corners to Oulu's three. The estimated expected goals were 1.75 for the hosts and 0.75 for the visitors, a gap of 1.00.
Oulu were efficient with what they had: three of their seven shots hit the target, and one went in. Kuopio needed more from their 17 attempts than the four that tested Santos.
Santos was not the only Oulu player to rate highly. Defender Juha Pirinen also earned a match rating of 8 and had 60 touches, while Mikko Pitkänen, another defender, had 7.8 and 50 touches. Both played the full 90 minutes.
What it means
The result cuts against the table. Kuopio are second with 48 points from 26 matches and a goal difference of +16. Oulu are fifth with 37 points, 11 fewer, and a goal difference of -2.
Oulu's 37 points keep them fifth, while Kuopio's second place is not in question on this evidence. The hosts have now scored no goals in a match in which their season expected-goals total of 47.6 suggested a side that creates plenty.
The sides also met twice earlier this year. Kuopio won 3-2 on 22 April, and Oulu won 2-0 on 2 May. This win leaves Oulu with two victories from the last three meetings.
