How it happened

Antonio Raimondo scored a hat-trick, and the match rating of 8.8 that came with it was the best on the pitch. Frosinone won 4-2 and had the game largely settled by half-time, when they led 3-2.

Giacomo Calò opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Domenico Berardi levelled for Sassuolo in the 15th, but Raimondo then struck in the 26th and again in the 30th to put Frosinone 3-1 ahead.

Sassuolo answered before the break. Thorstvedt scored in the 37th minute to make it 3-2, and the game stayed open until the hour. Raimondo completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute, and Sassuolo did not score again.

The numbers

Frosinone had 21 shots to Sassuolo's 14, with 10 on target against six. Their expected goals total of 2.11 edged Sassuolo's 1.92, so the 4-2 scoreline is wider than the chances alone suggest. Corners were close at five to four.

Sassuolo held 58% of possession to Frosinone's 42%, which brought them territory but not control of the scoreline.

Raimondo played 89 minutes and had 29 touches. His three goals came from 0.94 expected goals, a clinical return. Calò, who scored once, earned a match rating of 8.3 with five key passes and 83 touches. For Sassuolo, Berardi scored once and had a rating of 7.7.

Goalkeeper Arijanet Murić made six saves and had a match rating of 7.1. That kept the margin to two goals against a side with 10 shots on target.

What it means

Frosinone are fourth with 13 points from seven matches, with a goal difference of plus four. Their results over the last 10 matches read win, loss, win, win, draw, win, draw, win, loss, win, which comes to two points per match.

The scoreline repeats September 2023, when Frosinone also won 4-2 against Sassuolo. Across seven meetings, Sassuolo have three wins, Frosinone one and three have been drawn.
