How it happened
Juninho scored both goals as Pumas UNAM beat Atlante FC 2-1 in the derby, a result that came despite Atlante having by far the greater share of shots.
The turning point arrived early. M.Herrera was sent off for Atlante in the 34th minute, leaving the home side a player short for the rest of the match. Juninho punished that in the 42nd minute to put Pumas ahead.
Atlante answered straight away. L. Calzadilla equalised in the 45+1 minute, and the sides went in level at 1-1.
The decisive moment came in the 72nd minute, when Juninho scored again. Atlante could not find another equaliser.
The numbers
Atlante took 16 shots to six for Pumas, with five on target against three, and won 10 corners to none. Possession was split evenly at 50% each. The expected-goals figures were close: 0.96 for Atlante and 1.15 for Pumas.
Juninho carried most of that Pumas total. His expected goals came to 0.85, and he earned a match rating of 8 for his two goals, the highest among the players listed. He played 85 minutes and had 29 touches.
Keylor Navas was the reason Atlante's shot count did not turn into goals. The Pumas goalkeeper made five saves and took a match rating of 7. Nathan Silva, at 7.9, and Adalberto Carrasquilla, at 7.8, also rated highly. Carrasquilla made four key passes and set up a goal.
What it means
The result cuts against the shot count but fits the table. Pumas UNAM are ninth with 16 points from 12 matches, while Atlante are 16th with 11 points, five fewer.
Pumas arrive with a recent sequence of draw, loss, draw, loss, win before this fixture, and Atlante with loss, win, draw, loss, draw. Atlante have scored 13 goals and conceded 19 this season, a goal difference of -6.
In the meetings between the clubs, Pumas have won eight of 12, Atlante three, with one draw.
