The state of play
The recent records point one way and the betting market another. Faroe Islands arrive at the Astana Arena with five wins from their last ten matches; Kazakhstan have one. Yet the market still makes the hosts slight favourites for this League C, Group 3 fixture on Matchday 4, which kicks off at 14:00 UTC on 6 October.
Kazakhstan's last ten read L-L-D-L-D-L-D-D-W-L: one win, four draws and five defeats, worth 0.7 points per match. Faroe Islands' sequence is D-D-D-W-W-L-W-W-W-L, with five wins, three draws and two defeats for 1.8 points per match, more than twice the hosts' rate. Kristo Tohver is the referee.
Head to head
There is little to separate the sides across their four meetings. Each has won once and two have been drawn, with an average of two goals a game.
The most recent was on 26 September, a 1-1 draw in the Faroe Islands. Before that, Faroe Islands won 1-0 at home on 18 November 2025. The two earlier meetings date back to 2013: a 1-1 draw in the Faroe Islands in October and a 2-1 Kazakhstan win at home in September, their only victory in the series.
The numbers behind it
The goal columns explain why the form gap matters. Kazakhstan have scored 11 and conceded 18 in their last ten, a goal difference of minus seven. Faroe Islands have scored 14 and conceded 9, a difference of plus five, and have let in fewer than a goal a game.
Neither side scores freely. Kazakhstan average 1.1 goals per match over that run and Faroe Islands 1.4, and none of the four meetings between them has produced more than three goals. That fits a fixture expected to be tight and low-scoring.
Our view
The betting market implies about a 40% chance of a Kazakhstan win, 31% for a draw and 30% for Faroe Islands. Our model reads it differently, putting the visitors on about 38%, Kazakhstan on 33% and the draw on 30%.
The gap is best explained by the recent records: Faroe Islands' 1.8 points per match and positive goal difference against Kazakhstan's 0.7 and negative one. Even so, the margins are modest and all three outcomes sit within a narrow band, so this remains highly uncertain.
On goals, market and model broadly agree. The market implies about 62% for fewer than three goals and our model about 64%. Both teams scoring is estimated at about 46% by the market and 42% by our model. Football is high-variance, and a single moment can overturn any of these estimates.
