How it happened

Guyana beat Dominica 8-1 in League B, Group A of the CONCACAF Nations League on 4 October, and Omari Glasgow was at the centre of it, with two goals, two assists and a match rating of 10, the highest on the pitch.

O. Glasgow opened the scoring in the fifth minute. D. Moore made it 2-0 in the 18th, E. Bonds added a third in the 24th and Glasgow struck again in the 33rd, so Guyana went in 4-0 up at the break under cloudy skies at the Estadio Centroamericano de Mayaguez.

The second half followed the same pattern. C. Kellman scored in the 53rd minute and Moore got his second four minutes later. R. Cuffy pulled one back for Dominica in the 67th, but E. George replied two minutes after that and Bonds completed the scoring in the 75th. There were no red cards.

The numbers

Guyana dominated every column. They had 65% of possession, 29 shots to 7 and 12 on target to Dominica's 3. Expected goals, which were estimated for this fixture, came out at 4.67 to 0.45, which suggests the margin was earned rather than lucky, even if Guyana finished well above that figure.

Glasgow, playing in midfield, added five key passes in his 79 minutes. Elliot Bonds, a defender, scored twice and earned a match rating of 9.9 from 73 touches, the most among the top performers. Deon Moore also scored two and was rated 8.5.

For Dominica, goalkeeper Dwight Eloi made 3 saves and was given a match rating of 3 on a difficult afternoon for the whole side.

What it means

The result extends a strong run for Guyana, who have won nine of their last ten matches, scoring 30 goals and conceding 6, an average of 2.7 points per match. Dominica have one win, two draws and seven defeats in their last ten, with 27 goals conceded.

Guyana have now won all three recent meetings between the sides: 2-0 at home in March, 5-1 away on 1 October and this 8-1. Those games have averaged 5.67 goals. No table data was supplied, so the group standings cannot be assessed here.
