How it happened

Bonaire won 4-1 against Grenada at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Matchday 4 of League B, Group C, a three-goal margin built entirely after half-time. The visitors had lost eight of their previous ten matches; Grenada had won their last four.

Grenada struck first through B. Ettienne in the 11th minute, but the lead lasted two minutes. R. Martijn equalised in the 13th, and the sides went in level at 1-1 under cloudy skies and a temperature of 26C.

The second half belonged to Bonaire. B. Sonnenschein put them ahead in the 59th minute, M. Bostdorp made it 3-1 in the 67th and A. Cicilia added the fourth in the 83rd. There were no red cards.

The numbers

Grenada had more of the ball, with 54% possession to 46%, and won 10 corners to Bonaire's three. The visitors were sharper in front of goal: 12 shots to 10, and six on target to Grenada's two. Estimated expected goals were close, 1.99 to 1.5 in Bonaire's favour, which suggests the finishing, rather than the volume of chances, decided the margin.

Myron Bostdorp had the highest match rating on the pitch at 8.9, with a goal, an assist and two key passes in 89 minutes. Ayrton Cicilia, the forward, scored once and was rated 7.9. Defender Railey Martijn scored the equaliser, had 76 touches and earned a rating of 7.7.

What it means

The result reverses the outcome of the meeting between the sides on 3 October, when Grenada won 3-2 in a fixture listed with Bonaire at home. Across the two games, Grenada and Bonaire have each now scored five goals against the other.

For Grenada, the defeat ends a run of four straight wins; their previous ten matches read LWLLLLWWWW, with 21 goals scored and 22 conceded. Bonaire came in with two wins from ten and 13 goals scored, so four in one night represents almost a third of that total.
