How it happened

FC Viktoria Plzeň, tenth in the Czech First League, beat third-placed Mladá Boleslav 3-0 at home, and the match was effectively shaped inside the first 21 minutes.

C. Kabongo scored after two minutes to put the hosts ahead almost immediately. Stefan Pirgić doubled the lead in the 21st minute, and Plzeň went into the interval 2-0 up.

The second half was quieter on the scoresheet until B. Faal struck in the 86th minute to make it 3-0. Mladá Boleslav did not score, and there were no red cards.

The numbers

Mladá Boleslav had the ball and the volume. They held 62% of possession, took 19 shots to Plzeň's 18 and won 12 corners to seven. Plzeň, though, created the better chances: their expected goals came to 2.81 against 1.58, and seven of their shots were on target against four.

Gabriel earned the top match rating on the pitch, 8.6, with two assists, three key passes and 64 touches. Pirgić, who scored, followed with a match rating of 8.4, and Sampson Dweh was given 8.2.

In goal, Dominik Ťapaj made four saves and was rated 8.1, helping Plzeň to a clean sheet.

What it means

The result runs against the table. Mladá Boleslav came into the fixture with 17 points from nine matches, five wins and a goal difference of plus five, while Plzeň had 13 points from 10 and a goal difference of plus three.

For Plzeň, it follows a run of one win in their previous five league results (L-L-D-W-D), so a clean sheet and three goals are a notable change. Mladá Boleslav had won six of their last 10 in all, but this was their first defeat in three matches (D-W before it).
