How it happened
Daniel decided this one. The FC Dallas goalkeeper made seven saves and finished with a match rating of 9.1, the highest of any player, as the home side beat Seattle Sounders 1-0.
The match was goalless at half-time. Kaick broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute, and Dallas then held on for the remaining half-hour. There were no red cards.
Kaick's goal came from a modest chance by the numbers: his expected goals figure was 0.19. He also created two chances for team-mates and took a match rating of 8.6. Ramiro completed the top three with 7.8.
The numbers
Seattle had the better of the match on almost every measure. They took 16 shots to Dallas's 15, put seven of them on target to the home side's three, won 12 corners to seven and held 57% of possession.
The expected-goals totals say the same thing: 1.81 for Seattle against 0.93 for Dallas, a gap of 0.88. Seattle's seven efforts on target all ended in saves or blocks short of the line, and Daniel's seven saves account for every one of them.
Dallas were efficient rather than dominant. Their three shots on target produced one goal, and they limited Seattle to no return despite the visitors' territorial edge.
What it means
Dallas are seventh in MLS on 48 points, six clear of 13th-placed Seattle on 42. Over their last 10 matches Dallas have won six, drawn two and lost two, scoring 19 and conceding 19. Seattle have won four, drawn five and lost one in the same stretch, scoring 17 and conceding 10.
The result also interrupts a pattern between the clubs. Seattle had won four of the last five meetings, the other being a goalless draw in April 2024. Across 48 meetings Seattle have 24 wins, Dallas 11 and 13 have been drawn.
Seattle leave with a performance that outweighed the scoreline. Dallas leave with the points, built on one goal and a goalkeeper who refused to be beaten.
