How it happened

FC Cincinnati lost 3-2 at home despite 21 shots to 10 and 1.92 expected goals to 1.67. The Revolution made their chances count early and held on.

T. Barlow gave the home side the lead after 13 minutes. New England replied within eight minutes, D. Turgeman levelling on 21. J. Wynder put the visitors ahead on 43, so they led 2-1 at the break.

Turgeman struck again six minutes after the restart, on 51, to make it 3-1. K. Denkey pulled one back for Cincinnati on 67, but the home side could not find an equaliser in the remaining time.

The numbers

Cincinnati led almost every attacking column: 21 shots to 10, nine on target to five, 12 corners to five, and 59% of possession to 41%. The Revolution's 1.67 expected goals from 10 attempts shows how good their chances were.

Turner is the reason the gap stayed at one. The Revolution goalkeeper made seven saves and earned a match rating of 7.8, with only two of Cincinnati's nine shots on target beating him.

Turgeman scored twice from 0.92 expected goals and took a match rating of 8.3. Peyton Miller shared that rating, with two assists and three key passes. Wynder, a defender, scored once and had a match rating of 8.1 across his 90 minutes.

What it means

The table shows the Revolution sixth on 49 points from 29 games, with 15 wins. Cincinnati are 16th on 36 points from 28, with a goal difference of minus eight.

Cincinnati's last 10 matches read two wins, four draws and four defeats, with 24 goals conceded. That defensive record shows up here: two goals against from 1.67 expected is no outlier.

The two sides have met 13 times, averaging 3.08 goals a game. This one produced five, in a fixture where the Revolution won 6-1 in the most recent previous meeting in March.
