How it happened
Lautaro Herrera made seven saves for Estudiantes de Río Cuarto, but he could not stop the one that mattered. Marcos Acuña scored for River Plate in the sixth minute, and that was the only goal of a 1-0 home win in the Clausura.
The goal came early and the scoreline never moved. It was 1-0 at half-time, and Herrera then kept the margin to one goal through the second half. Estudiantes never found an equaliser, and no red cards changed the shape of the match.
The numbers
River Plate took 28 shots to Estudiantes' one, with eight on target to none. Herrera saved seven of those eight, which is why a one-sided match stayed a one-goal game. His match rating was 7.4.
Expected goals were 1.78 to 0.04, so the home side created close to two goals' worth of chances and scored one. They also won 12 corners to two and held 73% of the possession.
Acuña, who played 89 minutes, finished with a match rating of 7.9, three key passes and an expected-goals figure of 0.65 from his own efforts. The highest rating on the pitch went to Nicolás Otamendi, who scored 8.3 after 109 touches and a key pass. Ángel Correa rated 7.7 and created five chances for team-mates.
What it means
River Plate have now won both meetings with Estudiantes, after a 2-0 win in March. Those two games have produced three goals between them, an average of 1.5 per match.
Over their last 10 matches River Plate have five wins, three draws and two defeats, with 15 goals scored and 10 conceded, or 1.8 points per match. Estudiantes have no wins in that spell, with seven defeats and three draws, five goals scored and 13 conceded. That works out at 0.3 points per match, and a night in which they managed one shot and no attempts on target fits that picture.
