How it happened

Gimnasia y Esgrima took the points in the last seconds of a match they had spent largely without the ball. Germán Conti scored in the 90+7th minute to make it 2-1 and cap a night on which Huracán created more and finished with less.

The visitors went ahead in the 18th minute through Nacho Fernández and led 1-0 at half-time. Huracán stayed behind until the 83rd minute, when Caicedo scored from the penalty spot to level the score.

A draw looked the likely outcome until Conti struck deep into stoppage time. Huracán had little time left to respond, and the referee, Nicolas Ramirez, ended the match soon afterwards.

The numbers

Huracán led nearly every attacking column: 18 shots to 11, 11 corners to three, 56% possession to 44% and 2.06 expected goals to 1.33. Gimnasia y Esgrima were sharper where it counted, with six shots on target to four.

Nacho Fernández was the best-rated player on the pitch, with a match rating of 10. He scored once, recorded one assist, made two key passes and had 73 touches. Conti earned a rating of 8.4 and Agustín Auzmendi 7.7, all three playing the full 90 minutes.

Hernán Galíndez, in the Huracán goal, made four saves and earned a match rating of 7.2. His work kept the margin to a single goal until the final seconds.

What it means

Gimnasia y Esgrima come out of Matchday 13 of Clausura Group B with a win that extends a good recent run: four wins, four draws and two defeats in their last 10, with 15 goals scored and 15 conceded. Huracán have won four, drawn three and lost three of their last 10, scoring 10 and conceding 10.

The result also adds to the visitors' edge in this fixture. Across 17 meetings Gimnasia y Esgrima have won eight, Huracán four and five have been drawn. Huracán won the most recent meeting before this one 3-0 on 5 April, so the head-to-head record has not run in one direction only.
