How it happened
Matías Borgogno made seven saves and took a match rating of 9.8 as Defensa y Justicia beat Unión de Santa Fe 2-0, finishing the game with ten men after Sosa was sent off in the 76th minute.
The visitors did their damage in the last three minutes of the first half. Juan Manuel Gutiérrez scored in the 43rd minute and Pérez added a second in the 45th, so Defensa led 2-0 at the break.
Neither side scored after the interval. Once Sosa had gone, Defensa had 14 minutes plus stoppage time to protect the lead, and they did so without conceding.
The numbers
Unión had the better of the volume. They took 25 shots to 21, won six corners to three and generated 2.27 expected goals to Defensa's 2.07. Possession was split 50% each. None of that produced a goal: seven Unión shots were on target, and Borgogno saved all seven.
Defensa were the more accurate side, with 10 shots on target. Gutiérrez was central to it, with a goal, an assist and three key passes from 0.59 expected goals, for a rating of 8.6. He played 79 minutes. Damián Fernández, who played the full 90, took 67 touches at the back and finished on 7.8.
Borgogno touched the ball 43 times and added one key pass to his saves. His 9.8 was the highest rating on the pitch.
What it means
Defensa's last 10 matches now read six wins, two draws and two defeats, with 15 goals scored, nine conceded and an average of two points a match. Unión's last 10 brought four wins and six defeats, with 17 goals conceded and 1.2 points a match.
The result also tips an even rivalry. In 13 meetings each side has won four and five have been drawn. Defensa won the previous meeting 2-0 in March, and this was another clean sheet for them against Unión on Clausura Group A's twelfth matchday.
