How it happened
Alex Paulsen kept Motherwell in the contest for 90 minutes, making 12 saves, but Celtic's weight of chances told in a 2-0 win.
Camilo Durán opened the scoring in the ninth minute, and that was the only goal of the first half. Motherwell stayed within one goal until the 58th minute, when Nygren doubled the lead. Paulsen and his defence then held the margin there. There were no red cards.
The numbers
Celtic had 26 shots to Motherwell's eight, and 15 of them were on target against two. They took 66% of possession and won nine corners to two. The expected-goals figures were 2.87 for Celtic and 1.06 for Motherwell, so the scoreline was close to what the chances suggested.
Paulsen's match rating of 9.7 was the highest on the pitch. He touched the ball 67 times as well as making his saves.
Durán, who played 73 minutes, was rated 9.1. He scored once, created one chance with a key pass and carried an expected-goals figure of 0.29. Liam Scales was rated 8.9 after 90 minutes, with 164 touches, the most of the three players listed, and one key pass.
